Course Levels
400-499 *Some courses at this level, open to both advanced undergraduate and graduate students, are approved for graduate credit. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that a 400-level course carries graduate credit if they intend to use the course in their official Graduate Plan of Study.
500-699 Graduate students.
900-999 Professional development, not applicable to graduate degree programs.
*Graduate students in 400-level courses will have additional assignments beyond those given to undergraduate students.
For a master’s degree, a minimum of 16 credit hours must be taken at the 500 level or higher.
Academic Load
Normally the maximum number of semester hours that may be taken by a full-time graduate student is 12 in a semester or 8 during one of the two summer sessions. Enrollment in excess of these guidelines can be approved by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research based upon the recommendation of the student’s adviser.
Full-time Status
A graduate student is considered a full-time student if enrolled for a minimum of eight credit hours during the fall, winter or summer semesters. To be classified as a half-time student, four credits for fall, winter or summer are required. Graduate assistants are required to enroll in a minimum of six credit hours each semester, but are not considered full-time graduate students unless they are enrolled in the minimum eight credit hours.
