CH 315 - Organic Chemistry I Offered Fall: Yes Offered Winter: Yes Offered Summer: No Offered Other: No 3 Credits Hours (Lecture - Discussion - Lab): 3-0-0 Corequisites: Pre- or Co-requisite: CH 317 . It is strongly recommended that students co-enroll in CH 316 (optional). Prerequisites: “C-” or better in CH 112 .
First semester foundational course in organic chemistry for science and pre-professional majors. Introduction to the fundamental concepts of organic molecular structure, functional groups, nomenclature, physical properties, isomerism, conformations, and stereochemistry. Organic reaction mechanisms and acid base chemistry will be introduced. These concepts will be applied to the study of common organic reactions, beginning in this course and continuing in CH 325.
Notes: Students may only earn credit for one course: CH 220 or CH 317 / CH 317, in their major of study.
