This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of the field of archaeology, including a brief history. Students learn how archaeology is practiced today, field and analytical techniques, the various subfields of archaeology, archaeological breakthroughs, new technologies, as well as ethics and responsibilities of archaeologists. This course uses real-world examples and real artifacts from sites in the Marquette and Great Lakes region.
