This course is an overview of visual anthropology-specifically the use of photography and film as an ethnographic research method. We will emphasize the history and development of the subfield of visual anthropology beginning with early ethnographic films and culminating with an analysis of contemporary Indigenous media and creative visual means of transmitting anthropological knowledge.
