Integrated Career and Technical Sciences College of Technology and Occupational Sciences Associate of Applied Science

This program is pending NMU Board of Trustees approval. The board will meet Thursday July 9 - Friday, July 10.

The Integrated Career and Technical Sciences (ICTS) degree provides a wide range of technical and applied skills that are in high demand across many industries. With this degree, students can choose from concentrations that align with their skill sets, including areas of interest in the fundamental practices of industrial maintenance, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, automotive maintenance, welding, fluid power, industrial robotics, and other areas.  

This hybrid degree also allows students to design an independent study program within the College of Technology and Occupational Sciences, with options to include courses in Engineering Technology.  

Total Credits Required 60 Credits


General Education Courses 15-16 Credits



 

Effective Communication [EFFC] - 2 courses


General Education Electives 7-8 Credits


Choose from the following categories:

Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis [QUAR]  - 0-1 course
Social Responsibility in a Diverse World [SOCR]  - 0-1 course
Integrative Thinking [INTT]  - 0-1 course
Human Expression [HUME]  - 0-1 course
Perspectives on Society [PERS]  - 0-2 courses
Scientific Inquiry [SCII]   - 0-2 courses

Concentration 24-26 Credits


Beyond the initial Technical Core Courses above, students must choose one of the following concentrations for their remaining program requirements:

TOS Multi-Craft Concentration 24-25 Credits


Industrial and Controls Systems Technology Concentration 25-26 Credits


Independent ICTS Studies Concentration 24 Credits


Consists of courses that emphasize a technical or industrial area of study. Courses comprising this concentration must be submitted to Degree Evaluations in the Registrar’s Office along with department head and adviser approval.

Technical Electives 0-6 Credits


Students may choose any of the courses offered in Engineering Tech programs or any of the following subject codes: AUT, CN, HV, IA, IM, and WD to balance out final credit requirements given they have met the prerequisite requirements for the course.

Students may also utilize formal internship opportunities to fulfill required electives.  This option will need to be addressed with program faculty to obtain approval in advance.

Notes


Completing the IM core with at least 16 credits will make the student eligible for the Industrial Maintenance certificate

*Requires MA100 or higher or math placement equivalency
