AS 103 - Observational and Solar System Astronomy [QUAR] [LAB] Offered Fall: Yes Offered Winter: No Offered Summer: No Offered Other: No 4 Credits Hours (Lecture - Discussion - Lab): 3-0-3 General Education: Quantitative Reasoning and Analysis (QUAR) and Laboratory Science University Requirement (LAB) Prerequisites: High school algebra or MA 100 highly recommended.
History of astronomy; observational astronomy; basic science principles and how they relate to astronomy; the celestial sphere and coordinate systems; star charts; telescopes; formation and evolution of the solar system; planetary characteristics (internal structure, surfaces, atmospheres); and comets and asteroids.
Notes: This course may not be taken for credit toward the physics major or minor.
